ISD can confirm Notre Dame center Jarrett Patterson will miss spring football due to a torn pectoral muscle. The fifth-year center will require surgery, but according to a source, Patterson is expected to be ready for the season-opener at Ohio State on September 3rd.

We’re told the injury happened during bench press workouts inside The Gug.

Tim Prister of IrishIllustrated was the first to report the news.

The California native has started 34 games during his career, which includes 13 starts last fall following his return from a Lisfranc injury that prevented him from playing the final four games of the 2020 campaign.

Senior Zeke Correll stepped in for Patterson during those final four games in 2020 and becomes the favorite to take over the spot during the spring. Sophomore Pat Coogan will also likely get his fair share of reps this spring after making strides this fall in limited practice reps. Senior Andrew Kristofic could also be a name that gets work at center as the he worked there at times over the last year in practice.

Fifth-year senior Josh Lugg is expected to move inside to guard to compete with sophomore Rocco Spindler, but he Western PA native has also worked at center at times during his career.

Patterson had impressed many over the last two months with his leadership as Hiestand put a lot on his shoulders and the 2021 captain responded with flying colors.
