As Notre Dame evaluates running backs in the Class of 2024, one name the Irish have already come across is Kewan Lacy‍.

The Texas standout has a couple early offers – from Indiana and UTSA – but the 6-foot, 190-pounder’s list will surely grow.

“Kewan is very promising,” Lancaster High School recruiting coordinator Kevin Whitley told Irish Sports Daily. “He can also go out to the slot. He's going to play some slot for us as well. We're trying to keep him on the field.

“He adds speed and athletic ability and it's hard to keep him off the field.”

Lancaster has a deep backfield with Lacy having transferred over from Nolan Catholic High School this offseason along with 2023 running back Kyson Brown.

“We've been toying with him in the slot, and seeing how his hands, working on the route-running,” Whitley said. “He's coming along good man. He's trying to learn the offense. He's definitely going to be one to keep your eyes on.

“He ran for almost 1,400 yards last year at private school. Never mind the level of competition, you're seeing with your own eyes that he's got some juice.”

Notre Dame has shown some initial interest in Lacy and it’s a school Whitley said Lacy would “definitely” have an interest.

“Just the prestige of the program,” said Whitley. “They're one of the top programs in the nation and a new head coach.”

Marcus Freeman has already left a positive impression on Whitley and the staff at Lancaster.

“I don't know how much (Lacy) knows about (Freeman), but I know me and Coach are definitely going to talk him up,” Lancaster said. “I know about him and how he came up through the ranks as a DC.

“I heard the kids up there in the Notre Dame program love him and he's got great rapport. The ball hasn't stopped rolling up there. That's great, going through a transition of from a coach who was there 10-plus years.”

Lacy will continue to hit camps in the coming months and could make it to South Bend this summer.

“I'm definitely going to encourage him to try to get up there. If he gets up there, I know they'll offer him for sure.”
