After years of recruiting Bergen Catholic, Notre Dame finally broke through with the New Jersey powerhouse for the first time in years, when the Irish landed quarterback Steve Angeli and defensive back Jayden Bellamy in the Class of 2023.

And now, they’re headed back to Oradell, N.J., looking for more.

On Thursday, the Irish extended an offer to 2024 athlete Kaj Sanders‍.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder could play a number of positions on the next level, but it’s probably worth noting the offer came from Notre Dame safeties coach Chris O’Leary.

“I've been talking to them for a good couple months,” Sanders said of the Irish. “They said that I've been doing good in school with my grades and that they love how I play and that they want to coach me up.”

Sanders, who also has offers from schools like Rutgers, Syracuse, Penn State, Boston College and Duke, was fired up about the offer from Notre Dame.

“I was excited because I know it's a great school, so I was really excited to get it,” he said.

Sanders is also really high on O’Leary.

“Oh, he's a great guy, I love his personality,” Sanders laughed when asked about the energetic Irish assistant.

“It's amazing. He's just a funny guy.”

Sanders has also had the chance to speak with Angeli and Bellamy since they enrolled in South Bend in January.

“I know it's cold down there, but when they came back for a spring break, they told me they have a lot of meetings and that they're actually dedicated down there,” he said.

He’s planning to see it for himself soon.

“I'm most likely going to take a visit this spring either during the spring game or a camp, one of them,” he said. “I just want to see the campus. I don't know much about the campus. I just know a lot about the sports.”

He hasn’t made any other trips recently, but has one other one in mind this spring.

“Most likely Penn State by the end of this month and Notre Dame, that's it right now,” he said.

He knows what he’s looking for in a school.

“The most important things are probably the connection I have to coaches and how I'm treated down there at the school.”
