Top 2025 QB Ryan Montgomery Gets In-Depth Look at Notre Dame
2025 quarterback Ryan Montgomery was the first 2025 prospect to earn an offer from Notre Dame and the Findlay (Ohio) star made a stop to see the Fighting Irish practice this morning.
The 6-foot-3, 180-pounder arrived on campus and immediately was taken into the Notre Dame quarterback room to observe Tommy Rees’ pre-practice meeting with his unit.
"It went really well,” Montgomery told ISD. “I got to sit in the meeting room with Coach Rees and all the quarterbacks. I learned a lot and it really felt I was part of the team, so that was pretty special. It was fun to watch the guys compete and get after it."
It was a chance to see Rees in a coaching environment, which is something somewhat rare. Montgomery not only got a feel for Rees, but also learned a few things he can take back to Findlay.
"He definitely has a strong relationship with the quarterbacks and he's a very intellectual guy,” explained Montgomery. “He's very calm, but very passionate about what he does. It's awesome to see."
The Ohio native then was able to watch Notre Dame’s second practice of the spring and Montgomery left impressed with the Irish quarterbacks.
"They were definitely battling it out and that was fun to watch,” Montgomery said. “It was fun to watch them get out there and compete. It was a good group of quarterbacks and great to see the interaction between them and Coach Rees."
Rees and Montgomery also were able to spend some time together following practice.
"I did talk to him a little bit at the end of practice, but he had media, so he had to get out pretty quick,” stated Montgomery.
"He said he wanted me to come back this spring or summer. I'll definitely be back this summer because I have a lot of stuff going on with basketball this spring. The next time I come up, he wants me to stand next to him and the quarterbacks so I can really see the interaction between them and the quarterbacks."
Montgomery will have a busy spring with college visits, but also AAU basketball. It’s a challenging schedule and the Montgomery family will be tallying up the miles once again.
"I'm going to go to Ohio State next weekend with my brother and dad,” Montgomery said. “The first week of April, I'm going to Pittsburgh and Penn State. April and May, I'll be involved in AAU basketball.
"This summer, I'm going to take a southern trip to see some SEC schools and I'll definitely get back up to some of the Big Ten schools and northern schools like Notre Dame."
As for the early attention, Montgomery isn’t phased by it and is taking it in stride.
"I'm just taking it day by day,” said Montgomery. “I'm cherishing these moments and not taking anything for granted. I'm enjoying the time with my parents and my time on these visits."
