2023 Baseball Commit Troy Reader Saw New Sides of Notre Dame
2023 Notre Dame baseball commit Troy Reader returned to campus last weekend with his brother Tre and his best friend, Keon Keeley.
It's rare to see two brothers committed to the same school and probably even more unique when you add a best friend to the mix, but the three enjoyed the weekend as they were able to preview what the next few years will be like in South Bend.
"It was awesome," Reader told ISD. "We came up in October, but Tre wasn't committed then. Last weekend was the first time we really got a taste of what it's going to be like for the next four years."
One of the highlights for the Berkeley Prep (Fla.) star was seeing snow for essentially the first time.
"It's was awesome, especially to see the campus when it was snowing," laughed Reader. "I had never really seen active snow. I've seen it on the ground a few times, but I had never really seen it snowing, so that was really cool.
"The campus was super pretty with all the snow. It was just awesome."
The downside to the snow was Notre Dame baseball had to cancel its games on Saturday and Sunday.
Yet, Reader still had a great weekend as he was able to see the football side of Notre Dame.
"We hung out around football the entire weekend because baseball didn't end up happening," explained Reader. "We were in the football facilities a lot. We spent a lot of time with Jason Onye and we had a great time with him."
Outside of hanging with his brother and Keeley, Reader was able to experience campus life and get around the student body, which was something he had yet to do.
"I got to meet a ton of students this weekend for the first time," Reader said. "That was really exciting to meet all the people I'll be going to school with. It was cool to see them in the actual Notre Dame environment."
And while Reader is sold on Notre Dame, the opportunity to see another side of the university only made him realize he was making the right decision.
"It was fun to see everyone on campus and there was even a wedding there," said Reader. "It shows how diverse the campus is and I love it. It seems like Notre Dame has that culture where everyone wants to come back and that's the school I want to go to."
Reader will return to Notre Dame for the Blue-Gold Game in April as the Irish baseball program hosts Wake Forest.
