Notre Dame G Blake Wesley Declares for the NBA Draft
Blake Wesley has declared for the 2022 NBA Draft.
It was expected as the South Bend native earned Second Team All-ACC and All-Rookie team in the conference.
Wesley had a productive freshman year as he averaged 14.4 ppg, 3.7 rpg and 2.4 apg while starting 28 of 35 games.
Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey is fully backing Wesley’s decision to explore the NBA Draft process as he met with the family on Tuesday evening.
"We had a great meeting with his family last,” Brey said on Mully & Haugh Show on Wednesday morning. “I went over to the house there in South Bend. He will test the waters, but keep his eligibility and keep the option to come back. Basically, you're on a two-month evaluation process as June 1st is the date he would have to return if he comes back.
"They're going into this very level-headed. He's a great story - how he's emerged from kind of no one knew him to a potential first-round, top-20 pick. As I told the family last night, if he does what I think he could go out there in these workouts and he's a first-round lottery pick and if he chooses to go, I will lead the parade out of town. The only thing I said was, I better have a seat in the green room at the table.
"That's my role."
The 6-foot-5, 185-pounder scored in double figures in 29 of his 35 games with the Irish and it included a streak of 17 games scoring 10 or more points. Wesley also had a streak of nine games where he scored in double figures, including matching his career-high of 24 points at Wake Forest.
As it stands, Notre Dame got a great year from Wesley and he will be the first one-and-done player in program history.
