Top 2024 QB Julian Sayin Enjoys Deeper Look at Notre Dame
2024 Carlsbad (Calif.) quarterback Julian Sayin made his third trip to Notre Dame on Thursday and it was also his most in-depth look at the Fighting Irish program.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder arrived in the Midwest late on Wednesday before shooting over to Notre Dame bright and early.
“It was great,” Sayin told ISD. “We were able to see practice and then tour the campus. My mom hadn’t really seen the campus before. We had gone to the USC-Notre Dame game, but she hadn’t seen too much of the campus, so that was cool to see.”
One of the main reasons for the early trip to campus was Notre Dame offensive coordinator Tommy Rees wanted Sayin in the quarterback meetings before practice so the California native could get a true feel for the quarterback room.
“I really liked it and I was able to be in the meetings before practice,” stated Sayin. “I got into their concepts and when they got on the field, I was able to follow along and see what they were doing, which was really cool.”
Sayin left Notre Dame in October high on Rees' offense as the Irish quarterbacks make many of the same throws and reads he makes at Carlsbad on Friday nights.
After Thursday's visit, Sayin left campus even more confident that his game translates into what Rees wants from the Notre Dame quarterbacks.
"Definitely," Sayin said when asked if he fit into Rees' offense. "They mix it up. They go under center and in shotgun. They have a lot of Mike points they expect the quarterback to make."
The Carlsbad star was also impressed with Notre Dame's talent at the quarterback position.
"They looked good," stated Sayin. "Tyler Buchner and Drew Pyne both looked good today and I think Coach Rees felt that way too."
Sayin was also able to get quality time with Rees and head coach Marcus Freeman following practice.
"I was able to meet with Coach Freeman and Coach Rees towards the end of my visit," explained Sayin. "It was a neat conversation with them.
"We were just talking about my timeline and things like that. They wanted to know what I was really looking for in a program too."
The third visit to Notre Dame was important to the composite five-star prospect as Sayin is starting to check various boxes as he gets deeper into his recruitment.
"I really like the culture at Notre Dame along with the tradition," Sayin said. "I really liked my past two visits, so I felt the third visit was needed."
Notre Dame continues to be a contender for Sayin, which is significant as he could decide on a school by the end of the year.
"I was thinking about the October range of this year," said Sayin, who will visit Michigan on Friday. "I'll probably skip the top group and just make my commitment."
