2023 ATH Dalton Brooks Still Interested in Notre Dame
2023 Shiner (Texas) athlete Dalton Brooks is one of the finest football players in the country. The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder is electric with the ball in his hands, but also attacking the ball carrier on defense.
The four-star prospect has spent his spring on the track and in the weight room as he wants to add about 10 pounds this offseason.
“I’m in track season, so I’ve been doing a little bit of running to stay in shape,” Brooks told ISD. “It’s been going well so far. My fastest 100m time has been a 10.91 and I jumped 45’9”.
“I’m focused on my strength. I want to be bigger, stronger and gain some more weight.”
When it comes to football, Brooks holds offers from the top programs in the country and he's being recruited to play both sides of the ball, but his future is likely going to be in the secondary as he has All-American potential.
Brooks is just now getting back into his recruitment as the Texas native took a few months away from staying in contact with programs.
“I haven’t been in contact with anyone lately,” said Brooks. “I’ve taken a break from recruiting and now I’m just getting back into it.
Notre Dame was a school that was in consistent contact and Brooks was impressed with head football coach Marcus Freeman.
“Our conversations were good,” stated Brooks. “He’s always upbeat and speaks the truth. When he’s talking, you know what he’s saying and I like that about him.”
The Shiner star took a visit to Notre Dame in October for the USC game and it left quite the impression.
“The view,” Brooks said. “When I walked on the field, it was perfect. It was on point. The light show was impressive. You get that feeling in the stands and you want to be on the field. The atmosphere was crazy.”
Brooks will now look to set his official visits and while he has a few places in mind, he’s also very open at the same time.
“I have somewhat of an idea of where I want to take my officials,” Brooks stated. “I’m just getting into it this week.
“Notre Dame is definitely a school I want to get back to. I loved it up there. I could get used to the weather up there. It was a little cold, but it’s something I could get used to.”
Academics will play a factor in Brooks’ final decision along with the style of defense.
“I’m looking at the academics, playstyle and defense,” said Brooks. “I want to know if it’s a laidback defense or a go-get-it defense.”
