2022 NFL Draft | Notre Dame RB Kyren Williams Drafted by LA
Kyren Williams has come off the 2022 NFL Draft board as the Los Angeles Rams selected the Notre Dame running back with the 164th overall pick.
The St. Louis native redshirted his freshman season at Notre Dame in 2019 and rebuilt his body in the offseason while the students were off-campus due to COVID.
Williams had a huge sophomore season leading the Fighting Irish to the College Football Playoff by rushing for 1,125 yards and 13 touchdowns while adding 35 receptions for 313 yards and one more score.
The 5-foot-9, 194-pounder followed up with perhaps an even more impressive 2021 given the inconsistency of Notre Dame offensive line for the first half of the season. Williams rushed for 1,002 yards and 14 touchdowns and added 42 catches for 359 yards and three touchdowns. He was a Paul Hornung Award finalist for his efforts in 2021.
As a recruit, Williams chose Notre Dame over Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Nebraska and Stanford.
Fiery team leader and combative runner who leaves it all out on the field. Williams has been a worker bee with a willingness to do the heavy lifting on all three downs and has premium third-down talent both in blitz pickup and as a route-runner out of the backfield. The Patriots' usage of James White, Dion Lewis and Brandon Bolden might be the blueprint for how to utilize Williams in the NFL. - Lance Zierlein |
