Notre Dame expanded its offensive line recruiting board in the Class of 2023 on Wednesday with an offer to Kansas’ Joe Otting‍.

“Tommy Rees came to school today and watched me work out,” the 6-foot-4, 270-pounder told Irish Sports Daily on Tuesday night.

“Then later on, he sent some clips to Harry Hiestand, the o-line coach. And then just now, I had a call with Coach Hiestand and had a great talk with him and that's when he offered me.”

Otting’s offer sheet already included schools like Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska, Iowa, Iowa State and Baylor among others, but he was floored by the Irish offer.

“Speechless was all I'd say,” the Hayden Catholic High School standout said. “Notre Dame's kind been like a dream school of mine.

“Just my family growing up Catholic, just the rich tradition that Notre Dame has had of football. I come from a Catholic high school and we wear Navy and gold as well with gold helmets.”

Otting was in South Bend for a game in the fall and will be back soon.

“I am going up to camp June 4th for the o-line camp and then I'll probably take an official this June as well,” he said.

Otting isn’t sure when he’ll return for the official.

“Iowa for the last weekend is the only official I have locked in right now,” he said.

“I haven't really scheduled all of them. I'm waiting for track to wind down to schedule all of them.”

Hiestand made a “great impression” during his chat on Wednesday evening.

“I know he is one of those legendary o-line coaches. He's sent lots of dudes to The League and I know he's looked at as one of the tops.”
