2024 Ensworth (Tenn) linebacker Mason Curtis‍ made his first trip to South Bend on Wednesday as he competed in Notre Dame’s first camp of the summer.

The 6-foot-4, 195-pounder enjoyed his quick tour of campus and getting to know the Notre Dame staff throughout the day.

"It was my first time in South Bend and the coaches showed me around campus a little bit,” Curtis told ISD. “I thought the campus was really nice."

Marcus Freeman and Chad Bowden made sure to get in a few conversations throughout the day to show appreciation, but also to get to know the four-star prospect better.

"Coach Chad and Coach Freeman talked to me for a little bit,” said Curtis. “Coach Bowden was funny and high energy.

"Coach Freeman came up mid-drill and asked if I was the kid from Tennessee and I said, yes. He asked if I knew one of the Vandy coaches because he left Notre Dame to go coach at Vandy."

Curtis was also impressed with the style of camp Notre Dame ran as he felt it was ultra-competitive and the coaches pushed each player during the three-hour camp.

"I thought it was high tempo, very competitive and they kept trying to keep the camp competitive,” explained Curtis. "They had the fastest six people race at the end, which was cool. After every drill, they had the best two compete at it.

"I thought the competition was good. I knew a couple of people who were there, so it was even more competitive."

The Tennessee native also enjoyed getting to learn the coaching styles from the Irish staff.

"High-energy,” stated Curtis. “All the coaches I interacted with had tons of energy."

Curtis left will head to Grand Rapids for a mega-camp and then has two big visits coming later this month at Ohio State and Oklahoma.

And while he’s looking to earn more offers, Curtis is also paying close attention to how each program is run.

"It's a collection of many things,” said Curtis when asked what he’s looking for in a school. “I think culture is a big thing I'm looking for and what a school can bring."
