Coach: 2023 ATH Micah Tease "Very Excited" About Notre Dame
When Micah Tease arrived at Booker T. Washington High School in Oklahoma, Larry Buckley II wasn’t about to let him slip away.
“I had to steal him as a freshman before the defense got to him,” the wide receivers coach jokes.
In reality, Booker T. Washington was loaded with experienced upperclassmen in the defensive secondary while injuries opened up the path to the field on offense much quicker.
Still, while many schools are pursuing the 2023 Oklahoma athlete as a cornerback, Buckley II believes Tease could be a star on either side of the ball.
“Micah is the kind of guy who will go in and put in the work and that’s really what it’s all about,” Buckley II says. “If he’s on defense, he’s going to put in the work to make sure he’s the best defensive back he can be. If he’s on offense, he’s going to put in the work to make sure he’s the best wide receiver he can be.
“Now, I’m his wide receiver coach, so I am a little biased. I think he’s the best wide receiver in the nation, just my opinion and from the work I’ve seen him put in and the things I know he can do with the football.”
After an unofficial visit to Texas A&M last weekend, Tease is at Notre Dame on an official this weekend.
“He’s very excited about Notre Dame,” Buckley II says. “I know from his first visit going down there to camp, he came back and he was just ecstatic. He was excited about the campus and about the students and just the overall experience.
“He said everybody around there looked like they were about business and that’s what he’s about, business. He was really excited about Notre Dame when he left and I know he’s still excited about them.”
Tease goes to USC for an official visit next weekend and is also seriously considering Oklahoma and Alabama.
“Just his hard work,” Buckley II says of what stands out most about the 6-foot, 175-pounder. “He’s a hard-working guy.
“His parents have raised him with good morals and beliefs, so that carries him. That’s the basis of him, so he carries that everywhere he goes. He works hard on the field. He’s a good teammate. He’s constantly talking with his teammates, helping guys out.”
That makes the jobs for the coaches at Booker T. Washington a lot easier.
“It really means everything,” says Buckley II. “When you’ve got a guy like that who is the team leader who’s coming in, is working hard and is doing everything we’re asking him to do, it makes your job easy as a coach because now the other guys are looking at him and he’s setting that example for them.”
On the field, the speed jumps out most to Buckley II.
“He came into high school and you could see that he had a nice frame that could pick up a little bit of weight, but just his speed and quickness. He has great hands, very athletic kid. There’s really not too much he can’t do on a football field. He’s fearless.”
Tease will be busy the month of June, but he doesn’t seem in a rush to make a final decision.
