DOMEAHA: Notre Dame ousts No. 1 Tennessee, College World Series bound
KNOXVILLE – Notre Dame lingered, dangling precariously like a hang-nail Sunday afternoon as the championship game of the Knoxville Super Regional unfolded.
Perhaps, then, Tennessee’s Big Orange felt the squeeze of pressure.
Link Jarrett’s Fighting Irish? They sensed opportunity.
Now, after a 20-year drought and having last occurred before several members of the Notre Dame baseball roster had even been born, the Fighting Irish are College World Series bound.
Hello, DOMEAHA.
Fueled by back-to-back three-run innings in the seventh and eighth frames, as well as the indomitable relief work of freshman hurler Jack Findlay, Notre Dame ousted NCAA Tournament No. 1 seed Tennessee on the Vols’ turf inside Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
Final: Notre Dame 7, No. 1 Tennessee 3.
Findlay now has three saves and the decisive win in four of Notre Dame’s five postseason triumphs.
