2023 WR Commit Braylon James Talks "Breathtaking" Notre Dame Official

June 13, 2022

If it wasn’t clear that Braylon James‍ “gets” Notre Dame when he committed, it should be clear following the 2023 Irish wide receiver pledge’s official visit to South Bend this past weekend.

“This weekend was breathtaking,” the wide receiver from Texas told Irish Sports Daily afterward.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder chose the Irish over offers from schools like Texas, Texas A&M, TCU, LSU, Oklahoma, Ohio State and Stanford among several others when he went public with his decision back in April.

“This was my first time back in South Bend since I’ve committed and finally getting the opportunity to be around everyone else who’s already a part of the class was so awesome,” said James.

In addition to meeting up with fellow commits like Preston Zinter‍, Jayden Limar‍, Adon Shuler‍, Sam Pendleton‍, Sullivan Absher‍ and others, James took a lead role in trying to get California wide receiver Rico Flores Jr.‍, to join the group.

“I also got a chance to really hit it off with Rico,” James said.

James noticed the similarities and differences between himself and the West Coast native.

“We’re both two very different people with very different backgrounds yet we’re so similar because we have the same goals,” James said of himself and Flores.

“That was my first time meeting him in person and he felt like a brother to me already. We need him in this class.”

Notre Dame’s coaching staff played a major role in James’ decision to commit to the Irish in the first place and obviously made another tremendous impact on him this weekend.

“This is probably the most unique, decorated, and elite staffs in the country and the recruits that we’re bringing in replicate those same traits,” he said.

“We all want to be a part of something special and special is the definition of Notre Dame.”
