NBA Draft 2022 | Notre Dame G Blake Wesley Drafted by San Antonio
Blake Wesley is headed to San Antonio.
The San Antonio Spurs have selected the Notre Dame guard with the 25th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.
Wesley, a South Bend native, has made Notre Dame history as the 6-foot-5 guard is the first one-and-done player in the history of the program.
As a freshman, Wesley started 28 games and averaged a team-high 14.4 points per game while adding 3.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists per night. Wesley also shot 40.4 percent from the field and 30.3 percent from three-point range.
Wesley’s biggest bucket of the year came against Kentucky (No. 10 at the time) as he hit a pull-up jumper with 11.7 seconds remaining. Wesley scored in double-figures in 26 of Notre Dame’s 35 games, including a career-high 24 points twice (Wake Forest and Illinois).
The former Riley (Ind.) star led Notre Dame to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2017 as the Irish defeated Rutgers in the Four Four game before upsetting Alabama and eventually falling to Texas Texas in San Diego.
Wesley also becomes the first Irish player selected in the NBA Draft since Demetrius Jackson was drafted in the second round in 2016. He also the first player since Jerian Grant in 2015 to be taken in the first round of the NBA Draft.
Since 1992, Notre Dame has produced seven first-round NBA Draft picks: LaPhonso Ellis (1992), Monty Williams (1994), Pat Garrity (1998), Troy Murphy (2001), Ryan Humphrey (2022), Grant and now Wesley.
