Notre Dame landed their big in-line Y tight end in the 2023 in Cooper Flanagan‍. It made sense to follow it up with a different kind of tight end in 2024 and they did just that with new commit Jack Larsen‍.

He’s an extremely talented receiver and much more than a 4-star talent. He’s also the right fit that Notre Dame needed.

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 220

Projected Position: Tight end

ISD Grade: 91 (4-star)

National Average Grade: 90.0 (4-star)

What he does best:

He’s a natural hands catcher with outstanding ball skills. Whether it’s contested or balls that he has to reach for like this one, he can make difficult look easy.

They say the best dunkers in basketball are the ones who can finish on the bad passes. It’s not that different for receivers and tight ends in football. The ones who can bring in poor throws are unique and he adjusts terrifically to balls that aren’t thrown in the perfect spot.

He has enough speed to be a threat down the seam and I see him as an athletic matchup problem for most inside linebackers.

Seeing him in person at Irish Invasion highlighted how special he can be as a route runner. He has the necessary short area quickness to succeed, but his feet in and out of his breaks are exceptional for someone his size.

What he needs to improve:

I mentioned after Invasion that he’s not going to be the first off the bus at the moment. He has time to put in the work, but he’ll need a lot of physical development before and when he gets to college.

He’s a willing blocker, but I hope to see a better player in that area of the game over the next couple of years. Getting bigger and stronger will obviously play a big part in that.

I’d like to see bit more wiggle from him after the catch.

What’s his ceiling?

I see someone with the potential to be a high-level H-back at Notre Dame who can line up and create mismatches in different alignments. There are a lot of similarities with him and current Notre Dame tight end Cane Berrong, but Larsen is a bit further ahead of where Berrong was as a rising junior.

He’s yet another Notre Dame tight end commit with NFL potential. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Who he could be:

Former Alabama tight end Irv Smith Jr. (so potentially like former Notre Dame tight end Irv Smith Sr.)
