Decision Date A Meaningful One For Notre Dame WR Target Rico Flores Jr.
Rico Flores Jr. has had the date picked out since the very beginning of the recruiting process, literally.
“I've had the date set since I got my first offer and that was like three years ago,” the 2023 California wide receiver told Irish Sports Daily.
Flores will make his college announcement on Sunday, July 3rd, a date that holds great significance for the Folsom High School star.
“My uncle who passed away, that's his birthday,” Flores said. “He was one of my biggest fans. He always said, I was going far and that I'm going to do something, go to The League and stuff. He always supported me heavy.”
Flores’ Uncle Bash meant a ton to him.
“I will never forget the day I got the call,” he said. “It was very vivid and I saw his body like just right there on the street. It's crazy. That happened in 2017.”
Weeks ago, Flores narrowed his list to Notre Dame, Georgia and Ohio State.
He will have Uncle Bash close to his mind and heart when he announces the final decision on Sunday.
“I'm pumped up,” he said. “It's come so fast. It's crazy. It feels unreal, but I'm definitely excited for Sunday to come.”
As Flores reflects on how far his own journey has already brought him, he says Sunday “is going to mean a lot.”
“I've been through a lot throughout my life and just seen a lot of things. Coming up in North Sacramento itself, It's very violent out here. There's a lot of people who don't make it out. There are a lot of people who don't even come out of Sacramento. Sacramento's all they know.
“They've never seen the world. So just being blessed to have the opportunities I have to go out of state, go coast to coast, visit different schools, hop on flights and stuff. I just feel very blessed and I'm excited. I can't thank God enough for what he's done for me.”
