2024 DL TJ Lindsey Intrigued by Notre Dame Offer
2024 Bryant (Ark.) defensive lineman TJ Lindsey added an offer from Notre Dame on Wednesday night.
Notre Dame defensive line coach Al Washington extending the offer caught Lindsey by surprise as the 6-foot-4, 270-pounder wasn’t expecting it.
“I’ve talked to a lot of coaches and usually an offer doesn’t come until later,” Lindsey told ISD. “I had called Coach Washington and he told me. I think it was my second or third time speaking with him.”
Lindsey might just be starting his relationship with Washington, but he can already tell a few things about the Irish coach.
“He seems like a genuine person and he’s a real dude,” stated Lindsey. “That’s what I’m looking for in a coach. He knows what he’s talking about and he’s enthusiastic. Those are all good qualities.”
The Arkansas native also knows Notre Dame and the opportunities associated with the program.
“Notre Dame is iconic,” said Lindsey. “Who doesn’t know Notre Dame? I know they have an Ivy League education, independent and on NBC. I just know Notre Dame is a really good school academically and in football.”
Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Houston, Memphis, TCU and Texas Tech had previously offered Lindsey and a national recruitment is something he has worked on since he was young.
“I’ve always dreamed and thought of this,” Lindsey said. “It’s a blessing. I didn’t know I’d get them so early. I thought I’d get them, but I’ve always dreamed and worked for this. I’m just thankful.“
When it comes to Lindsey’s game, he is just scratching the surface as opponents will see a new player in 2022.
“I feel my best part of the game is my pass rush, getting sacks and getting to the quarterback,” explained Lindsey. “I’m strong, but I’m going into my junior year, so I’m not as strong as I’m going to be. I’m been focused on improving in the weight room. I’ve added like 50-plus pounds to all my maxes. I’m just working every day.”
Lindsey has the ability to play a few positions along the defensive line and time will tell where he ends up in college as there is a good chance he continues to grow.
“Half of them see me as a 3-tech and a 5-tech,” stated Lindsey. “Some of them see me as a 5-tech and an outside linebacker. Right now, I like the 3-tech and the 5-tech. I like the 5-tech mostly, but it really doesn’t matter to me.
“My dad is like 6-foot-6, 400 pounds, so I look small compared to him. He played basketball at Samford and Birmingham.”
And while it’s early, Lindsey already has an idea of what he wants in a school.
“I’m looking to build relationships and relationships for the rest of my life,” said Lindsey. “Of course, I’m looking at the academics and the team. My goal is to try to make it to the NFL, but that doesn’t always happen, so I’m looking at things deeper than football.”
