2026 DE Dominic Funke Grateful For Chance To See Notre Dame Again
Notre Dame’s BBQ earlier this month was an event focused on prospects in the Class of 2024, which made it noteworthy that Massachusetts defensive end Dominic Funke was invited as a 2026 prospect.
“It honestly felt kind of cool, like an honor to be the only guy my age to be there among these really good, older athletes,” the St. Sebastian’s School standout said.
“I went to camp back in June and I did really well at the camp. So, after that, Coach (Al) Washington invited me to come back for this barbecue.”
Funke enjoyed himself once again in South Bend.
“It was amazing,” the 6-foot-3, 200-pounder said. “I had an awesome time. We got a tour of the campus, got to play some competitive games back on the fields and we had a good dinner. It was a lot of fun.”
Touring the football facilities certainly stood out.
“The locker room was awesome,” he said. “We got to go out on the field. It was a really nice turf. Everything about it was just awesome. I loved the school and all like the architecture and buildings.”
Funke, who picked up his first offer from Boston College earlier this summer, had a chance to speak with Washington again during the visit.
“He just said that he's going to keep an eye on me throughout the next couple weeks,” Funke explained. “He wants me to keep in touch with him, call him every week. He's a great dude and he might come out to one of my games in the fall.”
Funke visited Boston College after the Notre Dame visit and could see the two schools on the field later this year.
“I think I might go out to the BC-Notre Dame game this fall,” he said.
It’s early, but he has a good idea of what he’s looking for in a college.
“I really just want to go to a school that has great athletics, great football and great academics, which Notre Dame provides for me. They've got great schooling and a football team. That's really just what I want out out of a college.”
