2024 OF/1B Bino Watters Commits to Notre Dame
Notre Dame baseball recruiting is hot.
2024 Rochester Adams High school (Mich.) 1B/OF Bino Watters has given his commitment to Notre Dame and he becomes the third verbal pledge for the Fighting Irish in three days.
“I had Michigan State and Dayton, but this atmosphere set Notre Dame apart,” Watters told ISD. “I’ve connected really well with the coaches.”
Notre Dame assistant and recruiting coordinator Logan Robbins made a point to recruit the 6-foot-2, 190-pounder hard over the last and his hard work quickly paid off as Watters visited campus on Thursday.
“I’ve called Coach Robbins two nights in a row and he’s really pushed for me to come to Notre Dame,” explained Watters. “He told me about how much work I can put in and become a super star. I’m supposed to talk to Coach (Shawn) Stiffler soon. Coach Robbins is a really good guy and I’ve had fun talking to him.”
When it comes to a position, Notre Dame’s staff is open to the Michigan native playing a number of positions because they value his bat.
“They want me to hit all the time,” stated Watters. “They said if I’m hitting, I won’t sit, so I could play first or outfield. I like first base better, but if I can get my speed down to 6.6 or 6.7 I think I can project as an outfielder in the ACC.”
The opportunity to play in the ACC was also a significant part of Watters’ decision as he knows he’ll be playing some of the best competition every week.
“It means a lot,” Watters said. “It’s a pretty big role. I have to start getting bigger, faster and stronger. These guys are already there, so to compete, I have to fill out.”
Watters also continues Notre Dame’s run of taking some of the top talent out of Michigan.
“It means a lot because kids from Michigan tend to go to Michigan. If they’re going to Notre Dame, then it means something special. I’ll get to play with some of the kids I know, but at the same time, the school is something special.”
