Film Don't Lie | Peter Jones
Notre Dame wasn’t aggressive with early offers in the 2024 class, but one of the first that Harry Hiestand made a priority was Peter Jones. He’s now the first offensive line commitment in the 2024 class.
A massive young man who could play guard or tackle, Jones has the potential to be one of the top offensive linemen in his recruiting cycle. This is a huge pickup for the Irish.
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 290
Projected Position: Swing candidate at guard or tackle
ISD Grade: 92 (4-star)
National Average Grade: 90.7 (4-star)
What he does best:
Jones can be a mauler moving people off the ball. It’s one thing to get the job done and it’s another level to drive a defender this far down the field like he does on this particular play.
He’s going to be a scheme versatile player who can do everything that is asked of him. Jones is strong enough to bully people at the point of attack and agile enough to get his hips around and reach edge defenders.
He has rare twitch for a player his size and we see that when he down blocks here and when he plays defensive line.
He’s very light on his feet in pass protection and that’s one reason why I think he can play guard or tackle in college.
What he needs to improve:
He’s light on his feet for a big man, but can rush his kick step at times to deal with speed. He gets on his toes. He also can lean a bit with his upper body and both of those things can leave him vulnerable to counter moves in pass protection.
What’s his ceiling?
Jones has rare athletic qualities for a player who is already built like he could step into a college program. He could be down right scary a few years from now with his combination of size and agility.
It’s always difficult to crack the lineup early at a place that recruits the offensive line as well as Notre Dame, but he has the tools to be a high-level starter for multiple years for the Irish.
Who he could be:
