Notre Dame WR Avery Davis Out for 2022 Season

Notre Dame receiver Avery Davis will miss the 2022 season after suffering a right ACL injury during Friday’s practice.

Davis had worked hard over the last nine months to return to the practice field after he tore his left ACL in November against Navy.

Head coach Marcus Freeman stated Davis and a few other players had been easing back into practice following day one of preseason camp.

”Both of those guys are full go, except they're just limited in terms of the volume in the reps,” Freeman said of Davis and tight end Cane Berrong. “We have a couple guys like that, Marist Liufau being one. All of those guys are full-go.”

The Texas native had not only found comfort at the receiver position, but Davis put together his most productive season at Notre Dame last fall as he recorded 27 catches for 386 yards and four touchdowns.

Davis was named a captain last fall as the locker room had great respect for the 5-foot-11 202-pounder as he had played quarterback, running back and cornerback in addition to receiver during his career in the blue and gold.

In January, Davis had announced he would return for his sixth year as he looked to build on his career totals of 66 receptions for 862 yards and eight touchdowns.

The loss is significant as Notre Dame’s receiver room was already thin and his injury only makes things more complicated as sophomore receiver Deion Colzie missed Friday’s practice after he was dressed in street clothes with a brace on his left knee.
