2025 DE Austin Alexander Recaps Notre Dame Visit

A couple months after performing at Notre Dame’s Lineman’s Challenge, Austin Alexander‍ was back in South Bend for the Irish’s win over Cal on Saturday.

“It was an excellent time,” the 2025 Kentucky defensive end told Irish Sports Daily afterward. “Everything is just done to perfection. The atmosphere is crazy. All of the coaches and the assistants just love me. It was really just such a great time.”

The Cooper High School standout was able to reconnect with Notre Dame defensive line coach Al Washington, defensive coordinator Al Golden and head coach Marcus Freeman.

“Coach Washington just keeps saying, 'It's only a matter of time until we offer you,’” Alexander recalled. “They're just working some technical stuff in the back. Hearing that is cool. He's like, 'We want you here.' It's a blessing to hear that from a coach and how much passion he had for me and the love he had.

“(Coach Golden) just loved the build I've had, that I've put on since camp and that I'm continuing to grow and he can't wait to see me continue to grow as a player.”

The 6-foot-3, 218-pounder has early offers from Maryland, Liberty, Akron and Eastern Kentucky. AN offer from the Irish would be special.

“It’d feel amazing,” he said. “It's the hard work I feel like I put in over the summer. I feel like I'm that player and getting that recognition would just mean a lot. My dad having gone to Notre Dame and growing up being a fan and stuff, it would just feel excellent.”

Alexander’s father, Durran, attended Notre Dame while his uncle, Shaun, played at Alabama before a lengthy NFL career with the Seahawks and Redskins.

Alexander has a couple trips in mind for the coming weeks.

“Next week, we're looking at either attending Purdue or Ohio State and then vice versa that following week,” he said.

In the meantime, he’ll remain in contact with the Irish.

“I'm going to be in contact with Coach Washington and the Director of Recruiting each week. I'm going to be sending film and we're going to send them my transcripts and all that. Hopefully something comes out of that.”
