2024 USC ATH Commit Aaron Butler Still Hearing From Notre Dame, Others
Aaron Butler committed to USC back in January, but the 2024 California athlete hasn’t completely shut down the recruiting process just yet either.
Notre Dame is one school that continues to pursue the 6-foot-1, 170-pounder and reached out to him at the start of the month.
“I'm a priority for them and they're excited to get me out there for a game,” Butler said of the Irish.
The Calabasas star is hoping to make it to South Bend this season.
“Just get a feel for the atmosphere and see a team that's dedicated, physical that executes,” he said of what he’d be hoping to see.
Butler traces his interest in Notre Dame back to the Manti Te’o Era.
“You see what it is,” he said. “They won even before that, long before. It's just a good football school. They're always good. They win.”
Butler has been in contact with multiple members of the Notre Dame coaching staff including Mike Mickens, Chansi Stuckey and Marcus Freeman.
He appreciates the fact that the head coach has involved himself in his recruitment.
“It's a good thing,” he said. “When you see that, then you know that they really have a good interest in you.”
He’s also enjoyed getting to know Stuckey and Mickens better.
“We got to chop it up on the phone and stuff after September 1st hit,” Butler said. “(Stuckey) is a really good dude. I know a lot of good prospects around the country that I'm cool with Ryan Wingo and a lot of other dudes who have Notre Dame toward the top, so it could be a big thing.”
Despite the commitment to the Trojans, he’s remaining patient with the process and is expecting to make multiple visits in the coming months before finalizing a decision.
Butler could play receiver or defensive back at the next level and isn’t quite ready to say which one he prefers.
“That's a tough question,” he said.”I never really like to say that because I could play either or.
“I would say there's nobody that's going to guard me at receiver and receiver's really fun. It's real fun. I like the challenge too, so DB is good too.”
