Jayshawn Ross‍ heard from multiple Notre Dame coaches the day they could first reach out to the 2024 Missouri defensive end.

“It was pretty crazy,” Ross said of Sept. 1st in general. “I heard from Coach (Al) Washington, Coach (Al) Golden, and then a couple of their recruiting directors.

“Their overall message was, 'We need to get you here. You're our number one guy and we need someone to hold down that other edge, that strongside edge.' And their regular motto of being able to provide the best education and the opportunity to win a natural championship.'”

The continued interest from the Irish means a lot to the Kansas City standout.

“It goes to show that with hard work and all that stuff, you could be number one and you could take it to the top,” he said. “Overall, it just shows me that they actually want me and they're going to try their best to get me there.”

The St. Pius X standout’s impressions of the Irish staff are overwhelmingly positive.

“I already know Coach Washington is a good guy,” he said. “I talk to him like mostly every Wednesday. I already know his family and his goal with me beyond football and stuff like that. The rest of the guys, I know they're just going to be there and probably have the same intent Coach Washington has.

“He wants to establish a foundation. His goal with me is to bring into his family, treat me like one of his own and stuff like that. Then, to provide me with the connections that will help me be successful beyond football.”

Ross is planning to get to Notre Dame sometime this year.

“When I get there, I'm going to have a lot of questions for the players to make sure that it's not just this recruiting process and they're not just saying what I want to hear, but that they can actually provide what I want in a family environment,” he said.

Ross doesn’t have a firm calendar of visits planned yet, but said he “for sure” knows he wants to visit South Bend.

“I go to a Catholic private school, so it just fits my lifestyle now and they provide the same kind of family motto that we have at my school now,” he said. “That really means a lot to me.”

Ross doesn’t have a firm timeline for a final decision either.

“I'm just going to know when I know and commit them.”
