2023 Guard Parker Friedrichsen Talks Notre Dame Commitment

Give Mike Brey credit for landing 2023 Oklahoma guard Parker Friedrichsen‍, who announced his commitment to the Notre Dame men’s basketball program last week.

“I would say a lot of it obviously was Coach Brey, the way he recruited me and his staff,” the 6-foot-4, 170-pounder from Bixby, Okla., said of why he chose the Irish.

“I took my official, I was on campus. I felt amazing. Everything aligned well with the timing of me going in and the stuff they have coming up in the future.

“I just got that gut feeling and I could really see myself playing for Coach Brey and playing under his system.”

The Bixby High School star averaged 27.8 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3.3 steals per game last season.

“Coach Brey is obviously a guards' coach, just the way he lets his guys play,” Friedrichsen said. “They want me to be just a guard, playing ball screens in the point guard role, but also come off screens and make shots and create for my teammates and just make plays.

“I feel like it's a lot of freedom, which is really good. They win a lot of games, so it's working.”

Looking beyond the court made the decision even easier.

“Obviously, it's Notre Dame,” said Friedrichsen, who chose Notre Dame over Nebraska and Davidson among several other offers. “That's all you've got to say.

“The education is crazy, the alumni you can make connections with is unreal. It's definitely kind of a no-brainer; the atmosphere, environment you're going to be in every day. It's perfect.”

Friedrichsen joins forward Brady Dunlap and guard Markus Burton to give the Irish three 2023 commits.

“I know those guys pretty well,” Friedrichsen said. “Actually Brady, I used to play with him a little bit. Marcus has been blowing my phone up and I got pretty close to him.

“I think we have a really good class. I think it's like third in the ACC or something. We're excited. We're excited to be there. We're excited to play for Coach and we think we're going to be really successful.”
