Days before Taeshaun Lyons‍ headed to Notre Dame for an official visit last month, Penn State extended a scholarship offer to the 2023 California wide receiver.

Last week, Miami joined the list.

Both have been considered serious threats to the Irish in Lyons’ recruitment, but to date, Lyons has only taken official visits to Notre Dame and Washington (way back in June).

The Nittany Lions and the Hurricanes were included in the Top 8 Lyons announced on Wednesday along with Notre Dame, Washington, Oregon, Utah, Arizona State and Michigan State.

And while he’s talked about potentially taking more officials, including possible stops at Penn State and Miami, as we’ve always said, there is a very good chance he doesn’t take anymore visits.

Lyons doesn’t feel he needs to take any more visits before announcing a decision.

“I'm fine if I don't take any,” he told Irish Sports Daily. “I probably won't take any more visits.

“I know about every school I want to go to and every school that's ideal for me. So, if I don't take any more visits before my commitment, I think I'm fine.”

Following his official to Notre Dame in September, the plan was for Lyons to announce a decision publicly at the end of October.

That timeline has been pushed back, but only slightly.

“I want to do it before my Senior Night,” the Tennyson High School standout said.

That would put the likely announcement before Tennyson’s Nov. 4th matchup against Castro Valley.

“I'm pretty sure that's going to happen. I think that's the plan for me.”

That doesn’t mean the process will play out that long though as Lyons will inform the schools of his final choice when he reaches one, which is likely to be long before his Senior Night.
