Notre Dame CB Christian Gray Excited To Return To South Bend
Christian Gray wanted to be in Las Vegas for this past weekend for Notre Dame’s win over BYU in its Shamrock Series Game, but instead the 2023 Irish cornerback commit will be back on campus for the Stanford game.
Gray will be joined some fellow St. Louis targets – 2023 running back Jeremiyah Love and 2024 wide receivers Jeremiah McClellan and Ryan Wingo.
McClellan has called the group “The Fantastic Four.”
“It's going to be fun,” Gray said of visiting together. “I know it’s going to be great to be around the dudes who I go against almost every day at workouts and play against them in the season, so it's going to be really fun.
Gray’s DeSmet squad faced off against Wingo’s St. Louis University squad a couple weeks ago. Gray pulled down a pair of interceptions, including a pick-six, in DeSmet’s 37-20 victory and helped limit Wingo’s impact on the game.
“I went against him,” Gray laughed afterward. “I had to shut down my boy, I had to.
I talked to him about it. He said, 'You didn't shut me down.' He said I had a safety over top and I said, 'Nah.'”
Gray is looking forward to reconnecting with Wingo, Love and McClellan on Saturday.
“I'm going to give them a tour around the campus and hang out,” said Gray. “Just show them how it is around this campus and the environment and what's the meaning of Notre Dame and what's the love here.
“I'm just going to show them that and show them the team too. I'm just going to show them why I chose this place and why they need to choose this place.”
Asked what the meaning of Notre Dame is to him, Gray didn’t hesitate.
“Love, God, connection and just becoming a great man,” he said.
Gray is also excited about hooking up with the other 2023 Notre Dame commits who will be in town.
“It's going to be fun to go back up there and see them guys again,” he said. “It's going to be great. We're going to have a fun time, I know that. It's a night game, so it's going to be very fun.”
It’ll be good for him to see the coaches again in person, but they’re in constant communication.
“I stay in touch with them every day,” he said. “They text me every day and it's just great communication. We check up on each other and everything. It's just great to communicate with them.
“They see me as part of the family. They see me as just one of their kids and one of the top kids. I can tell that they love me and that I'm part of the family.”
