As he gets toward the end of the recruiting process, Taeshaun Lyons‍ wants to focus, which is why the 2023 California wide receiver released a Top 8 last week.

“It's going to help during the season,” said Lyons, who has had a tremendous senior season to date for Tennyson High School.

“Getting called late at night and having to talk to some of these schools I've never talked to before. I think it's just more so a stress-reliever.

“I can say these, 'These are the schools I'm going to be focusing on and hone in on.’”

Notre Dame is one school that made the cut along with Miami, Penn State, Washington, Oregon, Utah, Arizona State and Michigan State.

“It's the degree for me,” Lyons said of why the Irish are one of his favorites. “If you go to Notre Dame, you get good football, but what really stands out to me is everything outside the football. How I can set myself out for a living outside of football after football.

“That's the number one thing for me, after my four years, if I don't make it to the NFL, how I'm going to be living with that degree. And that's good for them.”

While Lyons is hoping to cut down on the phone calls from schools he doesn’t have interest in, the fact that the Irish have been blowing him up is another reason he’s so high on Notre Dame.

“I talk to them every day,” he said. “I mean, every single day. In the morning, I get called. In the afternoon, I get texts, I get video, pictures.

“I'll talk to every single one; Coach (Tommy) Rees, Coach (Marcus) Freeman, Coach (Chansi) Stuckey, Chad Bowden. I talk to them every single day, every hour. There's really never been a school that shown me this much love. I've had schools show me real, genuine love. But this school, it's like they're bugging me.”

It tells Lyons just how valued he is by the Notre Dame coaches.

“They're really making sure I feel them and I understand how much they want there, making me feel like I'm part of their culture to come down there and be part of what they have going on,” he said.

Lyons isn’t sure if he’ll take any more visits before announcing his decision or not.

“I probably won't take any more visits,” he said. “I know about every school I want to go to and every school that's ideal for me. So, if I don't take any more visits before my commitment, I think I'm fine.”

He’s planning to make his decision public before his Senior Night game on Nov. 4th., but the Irish shouldn’t have to wait that long to find out.

“I'm definitely going to tell the school before, maybe a lot of time prior.”
