Jaxson Jones‍ likes the way Washington uses its rush ends and he really likes Washington defensive line coach Ikaika Malloe.

Those were big reasons behind the 2024 Arizona defensive end’s decision to commit to the Huskies in September.

But, the Yuma Catholic star isn’t done listening to other programs just yet either and after an offer from Notre Dame a couple weeks back, Jones is looking forward to keeping in touch with the Irish.

Jones received the offer from Notre Dame defensive line coach Al Washington after a couple of weeks getting to know Washington and defensive line assistant Nick Sebastian.

“They said that after they watched my film, they just couldn't pass up on the opportunity,” the 6-foot-3, 215-pounder said. “I was super excited. An offer like that is just crazy. Every kid dreams of something like that.”

“They're super good people. When we first started talking, we didn't really talk about football as much. We really talked about just me as a person, them as people, just getting to know each other really.”

Jones also has offers from schools like USC, Oregon, Arizona State and Utah among others. The Utah offer is especially interesting since his father, Daniel, played wideout for the Utes in the 90s.

Still, Notre Dame was a special one too.

“Ever since I was little, me and my dad would watch them on TV and always dreamed of playing at a school like that,” said Jones. “Now, it's actually coming true, it's just crazy to think about.”

Jones expects to make a trip to South Bend in the coming months.

“I'm planning on taking a visit up there during the offseason if me and my family can just to see how I like the school,” he said. “Just to see the campus and how everyone there moves around and acts.”

His interest in the Irish, USC, Utah and Arizona State seems legitimate, but he’s not forgetting about Washington either.

“Just the way that the way they rush their edge rushers at my position,” he said of the Huskies. “Coach Malloe, I met him at a camp during the summer. The relationship I built with them, I just felt like it was right at the time.

“I'm still committed, but my recruitment is still 100 percent open. I just want to find the best place for me.”
