2024 CB Mike Smith Enjoys Notre Dame Trip, Could Return Soon

Mike Smith‍ had been to South Bend before, but his recent return for Notre Dame’s win over #4 Clemson was something else.

“It was crazy,” the 2024 Ohio cornerback told Irish Sports Daily. “It was actually fun.

“I'd been to a Notre Dame game last year, but it wasn't like that. It was against Purdue. It was not like that.”

Smith enjoyed watching the Irish dispatch of the Tigers and the atmosphere inside Notre Dame Stadium.

“The game was fun because I'd never been to a big game like that,” he said.

Al Golden’s defense especially stood out to Smith.

“I like it,” he said. “I can see myself in that defense.”

The Trotwood-Madison High School standout has early offers from schools like Duke, Akron, Bowling Green, Miami-Ohio and UMass.

Prior to the game, Smith and the other recruits were able to learn more about Notre Dame.

“We got to get a tour and talk to coaches and meet the players and just watch the game,” said Smith.

Smith was able to introduce himself to head coach Marcus Freeman and speak with another assistant staffer.

“Everybody's energy was positive,” he said.

Smith hasn’t hit the road much this fall for other visits.

“I've been straight football,” he said.

But he could be back on the road again this week and at a familiar place.

Smith is planning to be back at Notre Dame for the Irish’s finale against Boston College this weekend, although he still has a couple logistical hurdles to work through.
