2024 DE Cooper Ackerman Ready To Return To Notre Dame
After a visit over the summer, Cooper Ackerman will be back at Notre Dame for this weekend’s home finale against Boston College.
“I went out there in July for an unofficial,” the 2024 Massachusetts defensive end told Irish Sports Daily.
After that trip, the 6-foot-4, 232-pounder was trying to figure out the best game to come to during the fall.
“I saw they were playing BC,” Ackerman explained. “BC has offered me and they’re around here, so just going out there and seeing that game will be fun.”
The Shrewsbury High School standout currently has offers from Boston College, Rutgers and UConn.
“It’s pretty cool,” he said. “I got them last year. Rutgers offered in April, then UConn in May and BC after a camp in June. That was pretty cool because I was young.
“They say they like my speed off the edge and that I play with a motor. They like how I play. I’m not really slacking for the most part. Even if a play is on the other side of the field, sometimes I still make the play.”
Ackerman is family friends with Preston Zinter’s family and was encouraged to take a trip out there after the 2023 Massachusetts linebacker committed to the Irish.
“I knew it was a nice school, so I wanted to see it,” he said. “It is a really, really nice school. I loved it out there.
“They showed me all of the facilities. They drove me around campus, showed me pretty much everything. I went in the stadium, did like a photoshoot and that stuff and met with a couple coaches and that was pretty much it.”
The campus was relatively quiet during that visit, though, so he’s looking forward to seeing what it’s like during the season.
“What the environment is like, what the fan base is like, see what it’s like on a real gameday when things are going on on campus,” he said.
He may try to get to Virginia Tech soon as well.
