Coach | Notre Dame Should Be Thrilled With QB Kenny Minchey

Thomas Morris doesn’t try to claim credit for what may be Kenny Minchey’s defining quality as a quarterback, his accuracy.

“There are things you can do to improve accuracy, but some guys just kind of have it and he's one of those dudes,” says Morris of touted QB Country.

“The first time I saw him, he was that accurate, so it wasn't even anything that I did with him. He's just one of those guys who he had it naturally.”

Minchey just announced his commitment to Notre Dame after backing off an earlier pledge to Pittsburgh last week.

“The biggest thing about Kenny is his accuracy, I'd say that's number one,” Morris says. “Number two is consistency. He's just the most accurate guy and probably one of the most consistent guys I've ever trained at this level. Every day you're getting the same guy. He's just so consistent.

“If you go up against a guy who's like that, it's just hard to beat a guy like that. He's same high-level every single day, never miss a ball. He's just that guy. I think Notre Dame's going to be happy with this dude. He's 6-2, 205, 210 probably. He's just deadly accurate.”

Morris points to a quarterback’s foundation for being a large part of accuracy and notes Minchey has always had a good base, but can also make plays on the move.

“The way he moves within the pocket, I think you can see a guy who's a pocket passer, but can navigate the pocket with his base,” says Morris. “He's always on platform, always ready to throw. I think that adds to how accurate he is.”

Morris says Minchey would probably fall into the “sneaky athlete” category.

“He's not the fastest guy on the field at all, but he's a great athlete,” he says. “He's fluid. He can throw from any platform.

“We really worked on off-platform a whole lot since I've been with him, just because he was so good in the pocket that we really wanted to get better throwing off the right-foot platform, back-foot platform, each platform, two-foot platform. He's really gotten a lot better where he is throwing just so good on the move. It's been really impressive to see.”
