Notre Dame has a long history of Butkus Award winners at the high school and collegiate level over the years. On Tuesday, the list got longer as 2023 Andrean High School (Ind.) linebacker Drayk Bowen‍ won the high school Butkus Award, which is given to the nation’s best linebacker.

As a senior, the Notre Dame commit tallied 144 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, five sacks and two interceptions, but also chipped in 1,784 rushing yards and scored 29 total touchdowns on offense.

Andrean has produced great football players in the past, but Bowen will take the top spot in program history following his career. Over his four years, Bowen made 379 tackles, 54 tackles for loss, 16 sacks and five interceptions on defense, while adding 2,969 rushing yards, 494 receiving yards and 55 touchdowns as a running back.

Bowen will also join three former Notre Dame players to win the High School Butkus Award as Manti Te’o (2008), Jaylon Smith (2012) and Prince Kollie (2020).
