Notre Dame Commit Tracker | 12.8
There are plenty of numbers to look at which demonstrate just how great a senior season Jayden Limar had this fall for Lake Stevens (Wash.) High School.
The 2023 Notre Dame running back commit rushed for over 2,000 yards, averaging over 9 yards per carry. He scored 41 touchdowns during the season and set school records for career rushing yards (4,246), career rushing touchdowns (66), career total touchdowns (78) as well as single-season marks for rushing yards (2,040) rushing touchdowns (36) and total touchdowns.
Most importantly for Limar was helping lead Lake Stevens to its first-ever state championship with a 24-22 win over Kennedy Catholic on Saturday.
But perhaps what best tells the story of Limar’s final high school season is the fact that his 207-yard performance, which included a touchdown, classified as Kennedy Catholic just about holding Limar in check.
“They did a great job stopping the run,” Limar told the Seattle Times afterward. “Just thank God we were able to get it done. Our defense stepped up tremendously. Our defense won this game for us.
“They bottled me up a lot, but we were still able to get it done.”
BOWEN, GUYER MOVE ON: Opposing offenses have way too much respect for Peyton Bowen than to challenge the 2023 Notre Dame safety commit much.
Bowen has found ways to make his impact obvious on special teams throughout the season, but even when he isn’t returning punts 60-plus yards for touchdowns, his presence is definitely felt on the back end of Guyer’s defense.
That was certainly the case during Guyer’s 45-21 dispatching of Southlake Carroll in the Class 6A Division II Region I Championship Game on Saturday.
Bowen led a Guyer defense that kept a Southlake Carroll offense that had been averaging almost 50 points a game in check throughout. Guyer led 31-14 at halftime and extended that lead to 38-14, effectively putting the game away in the third quarter.
Guyer plays DeSoto in the state semifinals on Saturday.
Bowen received a visitor the night before the game.
ND COMMITS WATCH TEAMS BATTLE: Neither participated because of injuries, but Notre Dame wide receiver commit Rico Flores Jr. and tight end pledge Cooper Flanagan met up before their teams did battle in the postseason.
Folsom ended De La Salle’s season last year in the CIF Division 1-AA North Region championship. Folsom topped De La Salle again earlier this season, 24-20.
But De La Salle got its revenge in this year’s edition of the CIF Division 1-AA North Region championship, winning 17-14.
De La Salle will play Lincoln on Friday night for the state championship.
GREATHOUSE WATCHES: Irish receiver commit Jaden Greathouse also sat out with an injury as his Austin Westlake squad cruised to a 47-7 victory over Brennan in the Class 6A-Division 1 quarterfinals on Saturday.
It was the 54 straight win for Westlake.
Westlake will play Galena Park North Shore on Saturday.
AUSBERRY SEES HIGH SCHOOL CAREER END: Irish linebacker commit Jaiden Ausberry had a touchdown and picked off a pass, but it wasn’t enough as his University Lab squad fell 35-28 in the state semifinals to Dunham.
