Notre Dame Makes 2024 CB Commit Karson Hobbs Feel Part Of The Family

After stopping by Archbishop Moeller last Tuesday to see Karson Hobbs‍, Notre Dame cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens will be back in Cincinnati to check on the 2024 Irish cornerback commit again today.

“He'll be down here Monday and then the week after the 14th of January, which is our Junior Day,” Hobbs told ISD.

NCAA rules prohibit the amount of in-person contact coaches can have with 2024 prospects at this point in the calendar, but Mickens and Hobbs have kept in touch over the phone and has been able to deliver his message.

“He wants me to start getting involved early, coming down for some spring practices, getting involved in the meetings, getting involved with the older guys on the team, seeing what I need to work on, the drills they do there and kind of install them in my high school workouts,” said Hobbs. “So, when I get there, I can be ready and try to get onboard early as a freshman.”

A one-time South Carolina commit, Hobbs flipped his commitment from the Gamecocks to the Irish last month. He’s already seen a major distinction between the two schools.

“They're much different than South Carolina,” he said of the Irish. “I feel like after I committed to South Carolina it was like, alright, they've got you and now they're going to look for somebody else. But day by day, I still talk to Notre Dame. It is more of a real love type of thing other than they, 'Alright, we just need another good commit and then we're just going to move on.'

“They show a lot of love with Coach Mickens flying in here.”

Hobbs knows Mickens is currently criss-crossing the country checking in on 2023 recruits, so the fact that he’s making time for Hobbs is telling.

“He said he came from LA to here to see me and then he was going straight to St. Louis to see the ‘23 corner Christian Gray,” Hobbs explained.

Hobbs intends to take the Irish staff up on the offer to be a constant presence in South Bend over the next year and believes it will help him get settled quickly when it’s his time to get there for good.

“I think I'll have a head start on everybody,” said Hobbs, who will be attending the Gator Bowl later this month as a fan.

“That's the whole goal here is just to get a head start, go in there and make impact as early as possible. My biggest goal right now is just grow as a player, grow as a person, and then when I get there, I can come up and be the leader when I get to school and just try to find my way on the field early.”
