It’s not a secret Notre Dame is looking to enhance the receiver room through the Transfer Portal this month and Virginia Tech grad transfer Kaleb Smith will be on campus this weekend for an official visit.

The 6-foot-2, 222-pounder brings a wealth of experience to the table as he’s played in 42 collegiate games after arriving in Blacksburg as a walk-on. The experience is one thing, but Smith has recorded career stats of 74 catches for 1,143 yards and seven touchdowns.

Smith was most productive in 2022 as he reeled in 37 catches for 674 yards and three touchdowns, nine catches for 152 yards against Pitt in October and was named ACC Receiver of the Week.

The Virginia native was also named a nominee for the Burlswroth Trophy, which goes to the most outstanding FBS college football player who began his career as a walk-on. Smith played in 11 games with five starts as a redshirt freshman in 2019.

One source believes he’d be a great fit for the Notre Dame program as Smith brings ball skills, body control and proven production to the table. Smith is also considered a good leader and mature, which is something the Notre Dame receiver room needs as it’s still a young group entering the 2023 offseason.

Notre Dame will be battling Clemson and UCLA for Smith.
