Notre Dame added to its safety depth in a big way on Wednesday as Chris O’Leary went to work on the recruiting trail.

Recruitment Rundown
Shuler picked up an offer from Notre Dame in May of 2021 and three  weeks later made his first trip to Notre Dame, which left a lasting impression on the four-star prospect. Marcus Freeman’s relationship with Shuler certainly didn’t hurt either as he recruited the New Jersey native at Cincinnati. Shuler gave his verbal pledge to the Irish on August 15 of 2021 and never looked back despite getting a late offer from Ohio State.

Production at defensive back matters and Shuler is productive. He knows how to find the football in coverage and his 183 tackles and nine interceptions in the last two seasons says a lot about his game.

I see the potential to be a rangy player deep and I know he can be an excellent perimeter tackler. He’ll add a physical edge to the defense.

Favorite ISD Quote
"Coach O'Leary says my playing style is very unique because I can play in the box as well as out in coverage. Tackling is something I really pride myself on. This offseason, I've focused on my man coverage, better ball skills - playing both sides of the ball, you have to have ball skills, but on defense, your ball skills have to be even better. I want to get stronger and more fluid out of my breaks."

Recruitment Rundown
Minich blew up in the spring after posting a track time of 10.47 in the 100m. The four-star prospect made his way to Notre Dame at the end of June but left without an offer. Minich’s offer came on July 20th and he returned the following weekend. Notre Dame landed Minich’s commitment a week later.

Minich is far more than an extra body added at safety. He is a legitimate blue-chip prospect who showed during his senior season that more people should be discussing his potential impact.

Athletically, he is someone who projects as a potential starter for Notre Dame and he shows the ability to play deep or near the line of scrimmage.

There will be fierce competition with the talent they are bringing in with him in the class and that will definitely continue in the next cycle as well, but his instincts and speed make him more than just a sleeper in my eyes.
