Notre Dame had a great chance at landing Leonard Moore‍ even before the 2024 Texas cornerback made a trip up to South Bend last weekend.

The Irish had a great shot at landing Moore as soon as they offered a couple weeks earlier.

But last weekend’s visit certainly provided the last piece of the puzzle and on Saturday, Moore announced his commitment to Notre Dame.

“It was just the whole thing,” Moore told Irish Sports Daily. “It was just different from the time we got up there to the time we left, honestly. It can set you up for life, really; the education, everything and of course they've got good coaches.”

Moore gives the Irish eight verbal commitments in the Class of 2024 and their second cornerback pledge, joining Karson Hobbs of Ohio.

The Round Rock High School standout chose Notre Dame over offers from schools like TCU, Oregon, Colorado, Vanderbilt, Duke, Arizona and Arizona State among others.

As he said, the Irish coaching staff made strong impressions, especially cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens and head coach Marcus Freeman.

“They're all pretty young, which is a plus, of course,” Moore said. “And the way they treat their players is just good to see.

“Mickens is easy to be around, easy to talk to. Obviously, he has the pedigree. He can coach up DBs and he sends them to the NFL.

“Coach Freeman too, he's easy to talk to. He's a young black coach, so that makes everything a lot easier too. He is just a cool guy. We were in his office for a while. He was really nice.”

The opportunities Notre Dame can provide off the field were crucial to Moore, who is an elite student-athlete with a GPA above a 5.0.

“Obviously, football is not guaranteed,” he said. “After football, you've got to have something to do, so I want to set myself up for after.”

The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder isn’t one who needs a ton of attention and wasn’t going to let his recruitment play out just to do so.

“I feel like it was just getting a little too much, like I was getting pulled out of class a few times a day, which is not annoying, but it was kind of overwhelming.”

Offers: Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Colorado, Duke, Houston, Kansas State, Missouri, Notre Dame, Oregon, TCU, Tulsa, UTSA, Vanderbilt and Washington State
