While in the Pacific Northwest recruiting last month, Notre Dame cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens dropped by Yelm High School in Washington and left a scholarship offer for 2024 Brayden Platt‍.

“Then later, we hopped on a call and I talked to the coaches,” the 6-foot-1, 240-pounder said.

“They were just saying they thought I would be a good fit for the program.”

Platt already had offers from schools like Washington, Washington State, Utah, BYU, Arizona, Arizona State, Michigan, Oklahoma, Duke and Georgia Tech among others.

Still, the Irish offer caught him off-guard.

“It surprised me a little bit because, Notre Dame, I didn't know that they came out here,” he said. “I was excited and kind of shocked.

“They're a really, really great program. They send a lot of people to The League.”

Platt is thinking about taking a trip to South Bend in the coming months.

“Hopefully in the summer or when we can go and visit again, I can go and visit them and see what it's all about,” he said.

“Just getting to see the coaching staff.”

Platt doesn’t have any visits locked in yet, but he does have an idea of when he’d like to make a decision.

“In the spring, just before summer, I hope to drop like a top five and then during the summer commit,” he said.

And, he also has a good sense of what he’s looking for in a college.

“Helping with my life after football, and then also which program can develop me to go and play in the NFL.”
