2024 TE Carter Nelson Planning To Visit Notre Dame, Others
Carter Nelson isn’t planning to get back on the road for visits for a while, but that’s okay because some of the top programs in the country spent much of last month visiting him.
“Penn State came and visited a couple times, (Ty) Howle their tight ends coach,” the 2024 Nebraska tight end prospect says.
“Multiple visits from Notre Dame, multiple visits from Nebraska. Oklahoma has. Those are just a couple.”
Making it to Ainsworth High School isn’t all that easy, so that shows the 6-foot-5, 210-pounder how those schools feel about him.
“It definitely means a lot considering how much work they have to put in to get out here most of the time,” he says. “It's no easy by any means.
“If you’re not flying like private into our little airport, you have to drive about three hours no matter where you land.”
Irish tight ends coach Gerad Parker made the trip so did head coach Marcus Freeman and a couple other assistants.
The in-person contact is limited at this time, but Nelson and the Irish have remained in consistent contact for months.
“Just how much they're looking forward to building a relationship and how they want to continue to build a relationship and show what they have to offer and then have me show what I have to offer to them as well,” he says of the message from the Irish.
Nelson made it to South Bend for Notre Dame’s home finale against Boston College in November and plans to return.
“I definitely want to get back out there again sometime, but it's probably going to have to wait until spring or summer because of track and basketball,” he says.
“I want to see more of how the coaches coach and how the players interact with each other, I think is big.”
Nelson’s offer sheet includes schools like Notre Dame, Nebraska, Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Auburn and Wisconsin among others.
He says there is “a large amount” of other schools he wants to visit as well.
“I think we're going to try to do a big round-trip to each coast and zigzag our way across the country,” he says.
Nelson doesn’t have a timeline for a final decision.
“I haven't really figured that out yet.”
