Report | Gino Guidugli Expected To Be Notre Dame QB Coach
Notre Dame needed a quarterback coach and per ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Gino Guidugli is expected to fill the void Tommy Rees left in the program.
Guidugli was named the passing game coordinator and tight ends coach at Wisconsin on January 6th following a six-year stop at Cincinnati where he worked with Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman.
At Cincinnati, Guidugli coached running backs in 2017 before moving to quarterbacks in 2018-22. In 2022, Luke Fickell named Guidugli offensive coordinator. Under Gino Guidugli’s leadership, the Bearcats averaged 29.2 ppg and 372.2 yards per game.
As it relates to quarterbacks, Guidugli developed Desmond Ridder, who was a four-year starter for the Bearcats and was drafted in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. Ridder completed 62.1 percent of his passes for 10,239 yards, 87 touchdowns and 28 touchdowns while holding a QB rating of 145.8.
Ridder finished 19-of-32 for 297 yards and two touchdowns in a 24-13 win at Notre Dame in 2021.
Prior to his time at Cincinnati, Guidugli spent time at Central Michigan as a graduate assistant before coaching running backs from 2013-16. Guidugli was named offensive coordinator for the Chippewas following the 2016 campaign.
As a player, Guidugli played at Cincinnati from 2001-04 where he owns the school record for passing yards and total offense. Guidugli totaled 11,453 passing yards and 78 touchdowns while rushing for 208 rushing yards. The Tennessee Titans signed Guidugli as an undrafted free agent and then he went on to play in various indoor leagues from 2007-2014.
Guidugli attended high school at Highland (Ky.), which is the alma mater as Notre Dame Director of Recruiting Chad Bowden, Jac and Austin Collinsworth.
