After seeing film from Tyanthony Smith‍ at a combine and then marrying that with the 2024 Texas linebacker’s game film, Notre Dame decided it needed to offer.

The Jasper High School standout was informed of the offer by Irish defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Al Golden.

“He told me, ‘You know you’ve got an offer from Notre Dame, right?’” Smith says. “I was like, ‘What?’

“I was excited. I feel like that's a very rare school for any kid from down South to get an offer from. I feel like it's very rare and I was kind of excited about it. Just watching Notre Dame players like Kyle Hamilton, just watching all those dudes, it was kind of exciting. I know what they've kind of got down there too.”

The Irish join an impressive list that also includes schools like Texas, Texas A&M, TCU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, LSU, Alabama and others.

Now that he has the offer from Notre Dame, the 6-foot-1, 205-pounder will look to get to know the staff better.

“Just build that relationship,” he said. “The more of a relationship I can build the better.

“I'm going to try to go out there for a little visit. I don't know for sure, but the more relationships we can build over the phone, the better.”

Smith has already made several unofficial visits and has more planned for March.

“Bama's Junior Day is on the 4th of March, and then USC from the 8th through the 10th,” he said. “That's it so far that I know of for sure.”

Smith isn’t in a rush to make a final decision.

“I've been thinking of Fall, during the beginning of the season, I'll probably start closing my recruitment,” he said. “I am not sure yet, because more schools will come in and I haven't visited many schools either. So around that time, I should be wrapping things up.”

He knows what he’s looking for in a college.

“I'm looking for a good athletic program,” he said. “A lot of schools have said they have good athletic programs, so you've just got to go and see for yourself. You've just got to see schools, see how you feel in the community and everything.

“Then, of course academics. I want to see what school can help me have the best benefits when I graduate from that school. I want to be set for life. I don't just want to be there and go play ball because I know I won't play forever. But I know if you set yourself up at a good school, there's connections.”
