Report | Notre Dame Expected to Name Marty Biagi Next Special Teams Coordinator
It looks like Marcus Freeman will go to SEC Country to make his latest hire as The Athletic’s Matt Fortuna first reported Matt Biagi is expected to leave Ole Miss for Notre Dame.
Biagi, who would be filling a vacant left by Brian Mason, has coached at Notre Dame before as he was a special teams analyst for the Irish in 2016.
Per multiple sources, Biagi is expected to interview in person on Monday in South Bend.
Biagi spent just one year at Ole Miss as he arrived in Oxford following a two-year stop at Purdue where he was the special teams coordinator for Jeff Brohm. The kicking game is Biagi’s bread and butter as Purdue’s Michael Fineran hit on 24-of-29 field goal attempts in 2021.
Prior to Purdue, Biagi spent three seasons as the special teams coordinator for North Texas. The Mean Green accounted for six special teams touchdowns, blocked nine punts and four kicks during his time in Denton, Texas.
Biagi was part of one of the most viral punt returns in recent memory as Keegan Brewer faked a fair catch and then ran 90 yards to the house.
