2024 South Gibson County (Tenn.) defensive end Cameron Clark‍ had heard a lot about Notre Dame, but Friday was the first chance he and his family were able to step on campus.

They left impressed.

“I knew it was the most beautiful campus in the country, but when you step foot on it, it’s different,” Clark told iSD. “Everything from the history throughout the school and the coaches was great. The coaches were all on the same page as far as the main goal. You could really tell everyone was on the same page and it was a team full of winners.

“My expectations were most definitely exceeded. The visit was crazy.”

In fact, Clark and his family were blown away by what they experienced.

“They loved everything,” laughed Clark. “None of us had ever seen it before and it blew us away. The whole family loved it. Everybody was just completely blown away the whole visit.”

Clark had several highlights during his visit, but there were two places that really hit home.

“We were able to tour The Basilica and The Grotto,” explained Clark. “I think those two places were the highlight of the visit because it showed you there was a different meaning to the college. Stepping on that campus - it just had a different environment.”

The Notre Dame staff not only rolled out the red carpet for Clark and his family, but they gave him plenty of time during the visit.

“I was with Coach (Al) Washington all day,” said Clark. “I was able to sit down with him, Coach (Al) Golden, Coach (Matt) Balis and Coach (Marcus) Freeman. All of those talks were great.”

Washington and Clark had started to build a relationship over the last month and the visit was able to shed more light on what life could be like at Notre Dame for the 6-foot-3, 235-pounder.

“Coach Washington has coached at every level and he sends guys to the league year in and out,” Clark said. “We broke down film and he helped me get my game better. He showed me some of the things they do and how they develop players. I really think Coach Washington can take me to the next level.”

Freeman was able to speak with Clark and his family, but it was shirt as Notre Dame’s head coach had to get on a flight to Greensboro.

“He had to go on a plane to watch the basketball game when we got there, so it was a quick talk,” Clark explained. “We basically talked about where I was position-wise and where they see me.”

Did Notre Dame do enough to secure an official visit in the summer?

“Definitely,” said Clark. “I’ll definitely be back for an official visit in June.”
