2024 Chicago RB Darrion Dupree Talks Notre Dame Offer, What's Next

At this point, Darrion Dupree‍ may be as familiar with some of the Notre Dame coaches as he is with Notre Dame itself.

The Irish are hoping to change that and make the 2024 Chicago running back more familiar with all of their coaches and the program in general.

Notre Dame running backs coach Deland McCullough extended an offer to the 5-foot-10, 190-pounder back in January.

“I was excited,” Dupree said of the Notre Dame offer. “I kind of knew I was going to get the offer because he was texting me the day before.

“I've been up there a couple of times. I know what it's about and I was just thankful to get that offer and I know they're a big-time school.”

That offer kicked off a huge surge in the Mount Carmel High School standout’s recruitment as he’d go on to add offers from Michigan, Minnesota, Purdue, Louisville and Michigan State before the end of the month.

Dupree attended last spring’s Blue-Gold Game and also camped in South Bend. He got a quick peek at some of the athletic facilities.

“I didn't really get to look at everything, like at the dorms and stuff, and the coaches,” he says.

His initial impressions of McCullough are positive and this is now the third different school the Irish’s new quarterbacks coach - Gino Guidugli - has recruited Dupree to.

“It's crazy because he was recruiting me from Wisconsin and Cincinnati,” Dupree says.

“I like that he's a good coach. He recruited me from Cincinnati and he still is, still showing love towards me.”

Dupree expects to take a visit to South Bend this spring, but hasn’t locked in a specific date yet.

“I really want to to get to know the coaches, see Coach Gino again, get along with the running backs coach, see how the facility is and look at everything,” he says.

In addition to Notre Dame, Dupree wants to get to Wisconsin and Purdue along with some others schools.

He expects to make his final decision sometime in the middle of his senior season.

His relationship with the coaches will be a crucial factor in his decision.

“The coaches stand alone with me. I'm staying alone with the coaches.”
