Game One Thoughts
- Notre Dame’s offense was up and down in game one as the Irish recorded nine hits, but none were for extra bases on Friday evening. The Irish had three players record two hits in DM Jefferson, Nick Juaire and Carter Putz. The biggest issue was Notre Dame couldn’t quite get runners home as they went 0-for-2 with the bases loaded and 4-for-15 with runners in scoring position.
Georgia Tech also struck out 12 Irish batters, including four of the final six batters when holding a three-run lead entering the 8th.
- Grad transfer Blake Hely struggled again with his command and consistency as he only went 2.1 innings to start the game. Hely faced 13 batters and gave up four hits, two runs on 50 pitches before LHP Jack Findlay replaced him.
Findlay was solid once again as he went 3.2 innings giving up three hits, one run, one walk and recording four strikeouts. Notre Dame led 4-3 in the bottom of the 7th when the Irish turned to RHP Matt Bedford.
Bedford, who had been consistent this season, had a rough outing as he gave up three hits, four runs, one walk while striking out two in just one inning. One of those runs came on a bases loaded balk.
- The Notre Dame defense recorded one official error, but there a couple costly mistakes by TJ Williams and Brooks Coetzee. TJ Williams slightly misjudged a ball to centerfield in the 7th which led to him slipping and the ball getting behind him which gave the Yellow Jackets momentum.
