The Latest | Notre Dame & Stone Saunders

March 16, 2023

When we talked to Stone Saunders‍ a couple months ago down in San Antonio, the 2025 Pennsylvania quarterback hadn’t been hearing a ton from Notre Dame, but he expected it to pick up.

It certainly has.

Irish assistant Al Golden made a stop at Bishop McDevitt during the Evaluation Period and stayed in contact with the 6-foot-2, 200-pounder.

Saunders also has a connection to new Notre Dame quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli, who offered him while he was at Cincinnati.

He was only able to speak with Guidugli a few times so far, but it was enough to make a strong impression.

“He loves the game,” Saunders said of Guidugli. “I want to be with someone who can develop me and he seems like he's definitely one for that. I just want to be around someone who loves the game and I definitely got that feel from him.”

With the increase in communication, Saunders added a stop in South Bend to a Midwestern itinerary that already included Michigan.

Saunders says he’s “pretty excited” about the visit.

The Irish have certainly expressed interest, but we’re not sure it’s progressed to the point where they’re ready to extend an offer.

His offer sheet currently includes schools like Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, Texas A&M, Colorado, Kentucky, Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech among others.

In addition to Michigan, Saunders will make stops at Colorado, Nebraska, Tennessee, Clemson and Georgia.

He’d thought about trying to make a final decision this summer, but isn’t sure that will be what he does. He certainly hopes to narrow his list at that point and focus on building even stronger visits with the coaching staffs.
