Notre Dame has joined the race for Avery Gach‍.

The 2025 Michigan offensive lineman announced an offer from the Irish during Notre Dame’s Pot of Gold push on St. Patrick’s Day.

“First and foremost, he loves football and he is just a guy who gets up every morning and wants to find a way to become a better football player,” says Brendan Flaherty, Gach’s head coach at Birmingham Groves High School says.

“It sounds pretty simple, but I mean that's it. He is just an extremely hard worker, a dedicated guy. He'll text me on Sunday morning, 'Can you open the weight room?' And stuff like that. He checks all those boxes.”

But when Gach gets between the lines, he flips the proverbial switch.

“Honestly, when he's on the field, he just wants to put the guy that's over him on his back,” Flaherty says. “He's an extremely aggressive offensive lineman. It's like The Blind Side. He wants to pummel guys. His film was like a cartoon. He just wants to put people on their back.

“He's a mammoth guy right now. He's 6-6, 300 and can probably put on a little more weight and can probably tighten up a little bit too. He's just blessed with that size. He's a big dude and an extremely powerful guy too.”

Gach’s offer sheet also includes schools like Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin among several others. He has some connections to the in-state schools but the Notre Dame coaches positioned themselves to be in the running here long before today.

“Those guys are fantastic,” Flaherty says. “You can feel recruiting is important to those guys and he can feel their enthusiasm when they call and they communicate. We're pumped up.

“Coach (Marcus) Freeman is doing a great job and he has a young, enthusiastic staff. It's a positive time and a great time to be at Notre Dame, I think.”

Gach visited for the Marshall game last fall and plans on returning again, possibly in the spring, but he received a message from his coach if he attends another game.

“I told him he better not bring them bad luck again now,” Flaherty jokes.

But, it’s safe to say Gach’s interest in Notre Dame is legit.

“Oh, 100 percent.”
