Post-Visit Update | 2025 Notre Dame DE Target Gus Ritchey
Gus Ritchey was impressed with the energy at Notre Dame after taking in the Irish’s first spring practice on Wednesday and the 2025 North Carolina defensive lineman displayed great energy himself afterward.
The Northwood High School standout was fired up after learning he’d received an offer from the Irish toward the end of today’s visit.
The 6-foot-3, 230-pounder adds Notre Dame to an offer list that also includes schools like North Carolina, NC State, Georgia, Michigan, Penn State, Texas A&M and Oregon among several others.
Ritchey was honored to be invited to sit in on a team meeting and was impressed with the way head coach Marcus Freeman presented the day’s schedule to the team.
He got a tour, including Touchdown Jesus and Notre Dame Stadium, calling the campus a “beautiful place.”
Then, he went back to defensive line coach Al Washington’s office to watch film and have a chat.
“And then it happened,” Ritchey said.
Washington explained why he believes Ritchey would be a perfect fit for the program on and off the field. And after experiencing Notre Dame for himself, Ritchey feels the same way.
Ritchey, who is likely to be a Vyper candidate, plans to be back in South Bend for next month’s spring game.
He’ll visit North Carolina and NC State later this week before stops at Duke and Virginia Tech down the road.
But the visit to Notre Dame certainly made a strong impression.
“They are really, really high. Amazing visit. I’ve never been to something like that. It felt like home.”
